School Visit to Prague Art School
Erasmus+ enables teachers from all around Europe to attend courses and exchange the experience with international teachers. On this occasion, the group of Turkish teachers came to Prague to attend the course Project Management: How to Make Your School International, and I, Katarina, am their lecturer from Croatia.
The first day of the project we had school visit to Prague high art school. We were happy to have such a hospitable treatment from the school’s teachers and students. Prague teachers prepared the full programme for us; firstly we had two English lessons held by Miss Vočkova, creative writing and English teacher. It was very interesting lesson; students were stimulated by using multimedia, and afterwards they had to complete creative tasks regarding the movie they watched. We noticed that there is a lot of interaction between teacher and students (student – based learning) which is something the educational courses put a lot of emphasis on. We were also pleasantly surprised by the level of English students had.
The second lesson was equally interesting; Miss Strnadova, the art teacher prepared the lesson about the history of art. We learned about the Reniassance. The lesson was very dynamic and consisted of many different parts: power point presentation about the Renaissance, interactive game Who am I, watching educative video-song about the topic. Generally, we we were very impressed.
Art lesson was followed by coffee break where we exchanged experiences about working in different educational systems with Miss Vočkova and Miss Juppova, English teacher as well. We agreed on similar problems the schools have in different countries. After the coffee break, we went to round in school accompanied by teacher Juppova and several students. We were pleasantly surprised by exhibitions on the walls – it was project – based learning in practice.
The next lesson was another art lesson, but more practical one – it was calligraphy lesson held by teacher Viltova. We could observe the students who are very skilled in calligraphy writing. Teacher Viltova was very friendly and helpful, and she gave us a chance to try to write as well.
After art lesson, we had one lesson in Czech language – it was Czech and literature. We listened the interpretation of one contemporary text. It was also very interactive lesson. Literature lesson was followed by another English lesson held by Miss Marikova. Teacher Marikova included us, the guests, in the lesson, and we participated along with the students. Since the students are fourth graders, they have to prepare for final exam that enables them to enter university.
English lesson was the last lesson in our school visit. We were impressed by the positive atmosphere among the teachers and students. The day after, on the second day of the course, we had small activity regarding the reflection of school visit; teachers had task to brainstorm on what they especially liked about Prague school that they would like to adapt to their schools. They had a lot of ideas. I will mention some of them: relaxed atmosphere, students feel comfortable in school environment, showing projects on the school walls, teachers interacting with students, creative approach in the classroom, and the list is too long to say everything.
Thank you for being our hosts!
